Lead video on YouTube

Written by Adrian Holovaty on April 30, 2007

Wow, somehow my MacGyver theme song video was selected to be the top featured video on YouTube's home page right now. A screenshot, for posterity:

I'm not sure what amuses me more -- the fact that the YouTube editors decided to feature this, or the immediate, endless stream of gratuitous "Please watch my video" comments that the video is getting (and I'm deleting).

Awesome video! I'd like to learn how to play that; did you figure out the tablature yourself or find it online? If the latter, please tell me where you found (all the ones on Ultimate Guitar are too simplistic). If the former, I'd really appreciate it if you'd transcribe and release the tab. Thanks!

Congrats! You have cracked the completely-random-and-needs-to-be-revamped YouTube homepage. :)

Vader: It's my own arrangement, and I don't know of any available tab. I'll see if I can find some time to transcribe it, though. Thanks for your interest.

Have a nice day! (I hope it really is day there in Chicago:D)

I just happened to be on Youtube randomly clicking the videos on the front page, then when I saw your video I saw the "adrianholovaty" as the artist and said hey that's the Django guy! Just had to stop by to comment, nice job!

I'll have to check it out when I get home - the tubes that deliver YouTube are capped here at the office. :)

I'm interested in your version of the MacGyver tablature too-. If you do take the time to figure it out could you send it on to me too? Really want to learn yours. thanks

Nice! Have you noticed a large increase in traffic to your video since making the homepage?

Posted by Adrian on May 4, 2007, at 3:53 p.m.:

Scott: Yes, the number of views has gone from 33K to (as of right now) 763K. Pretty astounding that so many people have watched that silly thing!

Whoa !!!! really cool man !!!!! your arrangement for that theme is not easy to follow , sounds great , i play guitar and my fingers are a little rusty trying to play this theme. I want a tab NOW , Bringing back memories .

Saludos desde Argentina dude!!!

Just happened to be wandering around You Tube and saw your video. Your playing is fantastic and will be watching for more soon. Thanks

Just watched your vid on youtube and i can see you play quite skillfully but in reality who chooses to feature these things? I wouldn't call it proper music its more novelty but i suppose if thats what people want to see thats what they get.If i were you i'd upload something a bit more substantial.I mean is it your intention to purely play T.V themes or do you have more in you repetoire? Do you write any of your own compositions? If so why not share those? And to all those people asking for tabs.....why don't you just work it out for yourselves? You can see from his video what chord forms he's using and you can hear, can't you??????? If i were incapable of doing that i think i'd give up playing altogether.

Sam: See this page for more of my music, including my own compositions.

Pete: See my MacGyver guitar tab transcription.

Sam, don't be a hater. This brought me way back. Remember when Mac disassembled an elevator console and used two live wires to heat liquid mercury to a gaseous state, thereby dissipating it and rendering the mercury switch of a time bomb inactive just moments before it detonated? What's not to love. I'm not a frequent YouTuber, but for some reason I logged on yesterday. I never forward anything, yet I've sent Adrian's video to probably a dozen people today.

Even more impressive, I followed Adrian's link to this site and now I know he's a lead developer for Django. Well done on all fronts Adrian, I'll be sure to keep up with your blog from now on!

God i just read my comment again and i really must seem like a real prick, what can i say? I was having a bad day.It wasn't my intention to be hater as such though Javaun I was just expressing my frustration. I checked out your other music Adrian and i was quite impressed, Happiness is a nice tune and as for your arrangements they really were creative,so forgive me for doubting your musical ability. If you're not already making a living as a musician you could certainly do so,in my opinion.
