Me at the Green Mill

Written by Adrian Holovaty on August 23, 2007

My life is complete. I have performed jazz on the stage of the Green Mill.

And here's the photo to prove it!

Me playing at the Green Mill

Thanks to Alfonso Ponticelli and Swing Gitan for allowing me to sit in for two songs ("Out of Nowhere" and a gypsy-jazz version of the Beatles' "When I'm 64"). If you're in Chicago, you really should see these guys live. Often.

That's awesome! I still need to make it up there before I move too far away :)

Totally sweet. I love that place. I swear, they have the best Guiness pour in the city.

That's terrific, Adrian. When I first met you in Atlanta, I remember you saying "Music is my life!" It's so good to see you getting to follow your passions.

Alfonso is such a fine generous person. I have heard him many times over the years. He just gets better and better. The bass player in the center between you and Alfons is Lou Marini. He is a real treasure. Does great solos.

Alfons teaches at the Old Town School of Folk Music not far from the Green Mill. He also has a sister who is a fabulous opera singer.

Holy shit.

I count that evening last year as a high point. I can imagine how much that meant to you.

Congratulations. :)

What about a recording. I must hear it. I love Django Rheinhardt ... I am assuming it's done in his tradition. Congratulations!!! It's always nice hearing that someone had their wish granted!

I can really imagine how you must have felt after that, btw would've enjoyed much had you posted a YouTube video(but i guess you must have been to excited about getting a chance rather than to film the video). Best of luck~
