Custom RSS feeds from Holovaty.com
Want to syndicate my blog's content? Want to use a personal aggregator to read it? You're in luck. I've set up an RSS system that's limited only by your imagination.
What is RSS?
RSS stands for, among other things, "Rich Site Summary". Basically, it's a standard way of syndicating headlines. Here's some more information:
And an outstanding resource is syndic8.com.
The basic RSS feed
The basic feed includes the headline, full text and permalink from the five latest Holovaty.com blog entries. It's available at holovaty.com/rss, or via the orange XML icon on the left of each page on this site.
Custom RSS feeds
My custom feeds include the headline, full text and permalink from the 5 latest entries that include a word or phrase of your choosing. This lets you filter which Holovaty.com content you get.
To access a custom feed, use the URL convention holovaty.com/rss/filterstring, where "filterstring" is the word or phrase you want to require in each entry. To separate words, use the ASCII space character %20 or just a plus sign (+). You can also require an exact phrase by putting double quote marks around it.
A few examples:
- holovaty.com/rss/washingtonpost.com -- last 5 entries including "washingtonpost.com"
- holovaty.com/rss/site+review -- last 5 entries including the words "site" and "review"
- holovaty.com/rss/"site+review" -- last 5 entries including the exact phrase "site review"
- holovaty.com/rss/"auto%20refresh" -- last 5 entries including the exact phrase "auto refresh"
Happy syndicating!
